In 1947 my grandfather, Guy Spayne (Spagnuolo), designed and built the 997 seat Lyn Theatre. It was perhaps the first movie house in the country to be equipped with a milk bar. The theater’s innovative design featured sloped seating and staggered rows, so that no seat was directly behind another.
The milk bar was located on the mezzanine, which had two large windows from which customers could watch the screen while getting their refreshments. The walls were sound-proofed so that no noise from the milk bar was carried to the auditorium.
Below are a few stories about The Lyn from the Akron Beacon Journal and other industry publications.
